Terms and Conditions

The basis on which you use this site and hold a BOVF supporter or member account.

The text on this page was drafted for a prototype to show the shape and tone of the policy. It is GDPR-aware but has not been reviewed by a qualified adviser and must not be relied upon or published as-is.

1. Who we are

British Overseas Voters Forum (“BOVF”). A non-partisan, volunteer-run, unincorporated community interest group founded in 2023. Registered office: Flat 1, Hays Court, 133 Rotherhithe Street, London SE16 4NF, United Kingdom. Contact: bovf@bovf.org.uk.

2. What this site is and is not

This site provides information and guidance for British citizens living overseas. It is not legal, financial, immigration or tax advice, and it is not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional about your own circumstances.

We cannot register you to vote and we do not process registrations. Electoral registration happens on gov.uk, through your electoral registration office. Our Registration Concierge tells you where to go and what to expect; it does not submit anything on your behalf.

We take care over accuracy, and information may nonetheless become out of date. Rules, thresholds and deadlines change.

3. Supporter and member accounts

Supporter registration is free. Membership costs £30 per year and gives access to the member area, policy groups and members’ events.

You agree to give accurate details, to keep your password confidential, and not to share your account. We may suspend an account used to send abusive or unlawful material, or to campaign for a political party through BOVF channels.

4. Membership fees and refunds

Membership runs for twelve months. If the fee is a barrier, contact us and we will waive it — no one is turned away.

In this prototype no payment is taken at any point and no payment provider is connected. The membership step is simulated for demonstration purposes. A live deployment would set out fee, renewal and cancellation terms here.

5. Political neutrality

BOVF is non-partisan. We do not endorse any political party or candidate and we take no party funding. We ask members to respect that in BOVF spaces — including the members’ discussion area — by criticising policies and systems rather than parties.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of anything you post in the members’ area, and grant us a licence to display it within the site. You are responsible for what you post. We may remove content that is unlawful, defamatory, abusive or party-political campaigning.

7. Our content

Site content is © British Overseas Voters Forum unless stated. You may quote and share it with attribution. You may not republish it wholesale or present it as your own.

8. Liability

We provide this site as-is and to the extent permitted by law exclude liability for loss arising from reliance on it. Nothing here excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

9. Changes

We may update these terms and will post the revised version here. Material changes affecting members will be notified.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
