BOVF branch

Australia

Australia has one of the largest concentrations of frozen-pension recipients anywhere in the world. The branch was effectively created by demand, from people searching for an explanation of why their pension had not moved in a decade.

What matters most here

Every branch works on all eight key issues. These are the ones raised most often in Australia.

  1. Frozen Pensions

More than 450,000 British pensioners abroad are paid the state pension rate they first received, with no annual uprating — for life.

  2. Fully Functional Voting

Only 52% of overseas postal ballots were returned in time to be counted in 2024. Having the right to vote is not the same as being able to use it.

  3. Overseas Constituencies

France has 11 deputies for citizens abroad and Italy has 12 deputies and 6 senators. Britons abroad are represented by whoever holds the seat covering an address they left decades ago.

Guides for Australia

Country-specific guides for Australia are planned. This slot is where they will appear — see the Thailand and Italy guides for the format.
