BOVF branch
Thailand
Thailand has no reciprocal agreement with the UK, so every British pensioner here receives a state pension frozen at the rate first paid. It is the first thing raised at every event we run in the country, followed closely by the family visa rules affecting British citizens with Thai spouses.

What matters most here
Every branch works on all eight key issues. These are the ones raised most often in Thailand.
Frozen Pensions
More than 450,000 British pensioners abroad are paid the state pension rate they first received, with no annual uprating — for life.
Spouse and Family Visas
British citizens who marry abroad often cannot bring their spouse and children home, because the minimum income requirement is measured against UK earnings they do not yet have.
UK Bank Accounts
UK banks increasingly close or refuse accounts held by citizens with an overseas address, cutting people off from pensions, mortgages and their own financial history.

Frozen state pensions in Thailand — what to check before you retire
Thailand has no reciprocal agreement with the UK, so your state pension will be paid at the rate you first receive and will not rise. Here is what that means and what to do about it.
